Final Design Sketches

The final sketches were the final stage of preproduction.  They were completed after discussions between the director and costume shop manager.  They use the colors, fabrics and ready-made items that we had discussed to illustrate for the director, design team and actors a strong sense of what each character would look like.

The designs continued to evolve and grow during the production process.  I was able to collaborate with the actors and director as they made new character discoveries though out the rehearsal process.  The costume shop and I also came across other challenges through the fitting process.  Dress rehearsals and previews also continued development to the designs.  The costumes kept the feel and character of these final sketches even though some details changed.

Preproduction: Design Development

Below are the main collages and thumbnails that I used to discuss ideas and concepts with the director
during the preproduction.

Early Collages
and Thumbnails

These early collages and thumbnails were what I used as a jumping off point to begin discussions with the director.  From our discussion I took notes on the ideas and concepts he liked and ideas and concepts that needed more work.

Later Collages
and Thumbnails

These later collages and thumbnails were after more collages, thumbnails and discussions with the director.  These thumbnails were used as the main discussion tool to develop the final sketches, above and were the first thumbnails to included color.  In order to discuss color further, approximately 20-40 color combinations were created.  Those were then narrowed down to the coloring used in the final sketches.
